Raj Rajaratnam (born June 15, 1957, Colombo, Ceylon [now Sri Lanka]) is an American investor who was convicted in 2011 of securities fraud and conspiracy in one of the largest prosecutions of insider trading (trading on information not available to the public) in U.S. history and the first such case to rely on evidence obtained from wiretaps (see electronic eavesdropping).
