Joseph Kosuth (born January 31, 1945, Toledo, Ohio, U.S.) is an American artist and theoretician, a founder and leading figure of the conceptual art movement. He is known for his interest in the relationship between words and objects, between language and meaning in art. Kosuth studied at the Toledo Museum School of Design (1955–62), the Cleveland Institute of Art (1963–64), and the School of Visual Arts in New York (1965–67).
