Chris Dodd (born May 27, 1944, Willimantic, Connecticut, U.S.) is an American Democratic politician who represented Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives (1975–81) and the U.S. Senate (1981–2011). Dodd also staged an unsuccessful bid to become president in 2008. Dodd grew up around politics—his father was a four-term U.S. representative (1953–57) and senator (1959–71)—and began his own public service at an early age. He joined the Peace Corps after graduating from Providence College in Rhode Island in 1966 and spent two years working in the Dominican Republic.
